Well where to start.?! I've been using good old vinyl for a couple of years now. And a few weeks ago I got the idea to try one of those interessting Digital Vinyl Systems. Really fast I had to realize that it's gonna be expensive, incompatible to my MacBook or expensive and incompatibel.

By searching the www I found this open source project 'Mixxx'. 'Well, it's free, so give it a try.' And what shall I say?! I was really amazed by the professionalism of this cross-platform-software. It was working perfect on my MacBook and it's absolutely free! Well, but I need to use 2 turntables.

A new Soundcard + timecode Vinyl would cost almost as much as a complete traktor system. So I've been asking some of my friends and in a few days I'll get a complete 'reloop Spin! 2'-System (controller/soundcard, Vinyls, Software.) for really little money! Only Problem: Spin!

Is incompatible to Mac (I would have to use bootCamp.) and I don't like that software at all! So my question is: Is there any chance that future Mixxx-releases will support the 'reloop Spin! That would be. Amazing again!

Okay, I've bought 2 Serato Vinyls and tried to get it working for two days now. But whatever I do, Mixxx behaves really strange. First of all I get red bars in the xwax signal-windows. I've read that this means too loud or too silent timecode-signal. So I did put another mixer between turntable and Spin!-Interface to be able to pump up oder even reduce the turntables signal.

Didn't change anything. Well, I think that this might be the reason for the strange behavior (stuttering sound sometimes while just playing a song, backspinning or fast vinyl movement always causes stuttering sound and makes mixxx jump to anywhere in the track, stopping the record doesn't produce this slowdown sound, it just stops the track, once I've had mixxx playing tracks backwards, no matter which directions the vinyls was spinning. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this.? (+ one off-topic question: Am I allowed to modify the existing skins yeah, nobody would care if I did so only for myself or are they anyhow license proteced?) Just if anybody might have a similar problem: Updated my MacBook from 10.5.8 to 10.6.7, installed Mixxx 1.90 and also installed the latest drivers for my reloop spin!

Now the timecode detection is okay, not perfect but it works. Except from fast vinyl movement.

That still behaves really different to real vinyl records. So beatjuggling is not that comfortable. But maybe a future Mixxx release might fix it. Finally I'm still amazed how great this software already is. Well, it might not work for professional use (in the combination of hardware I'm using) but for private use it's a great piece of software! Posts: 5 Joined: Mon Apr 18, 2011 2:21 pm.
